Spring Fever, a collaboration between Saatchi Art and Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill

I am really pleased to be hand picked by Chief Curator at Saatchi Art Rebecca Wilson for Spring Fever an installation in collaboration with Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill and Republic of Fritz Hansen.

The exhibition comes hand in hand with the unveiling of a brand-new interpretation of the Saatchi Suite – an exciting, contemporary art experience unlike any other in London. It will house iconic furniture from Republic of Fritz HansenTM including a highly sought-after four piece furniture collection by Danish designer, Poul Kjaerholm (1929-80) entitled PK 4 x 20, inspired by Piet Mondrian’s 1935 painting, Composition C (No.III) with Red, Yellow and Blue.

Alongside the furniture of Kjaerholm will be works by me and Tully Satre, which explore texture through collage and painting.

An acquisition – a rare women’s paper dress making dummy

rich_0104 rich_0111 rich_0114I was really excited to spot this 1900 rare women’s dress making dummy made out of thick card paper and now rusted adjustable bolts. The acquisition was made at an antique market on a day trip to sunny Brighton. This is a very exciting addition to my collection of patterns. Photos: Angela Murray

I don’t think my Valentine has been so enchanting! The Love-Nest Private view was such a warm, friendly and stylish night at Margaret Street Gallery. Little love hearts showed the way to the backroom of the mews where the art was installed. Vestal vodka and Eager grapefruit juice was served in double shot glasses – delicious, and Miles Davis set the tone of the night. The exhibition was a successful one – it’s by far my best work – as my friend and fellow artist Ed Burton points out. I’m also very grateful that the gallery will be supporting my participation at Collect 2013 produced by the Crafts Council, england and hosted by Saatchi Gallery. Thanks once again to the staff for making a special night and the young talented photographer Sasha alexander who photographed the night.

I am really pleased that my final post for 2012 is an announcement of some rather special news! I can reveal that 10 pieces of work from my Love Garden series will feature alongside 9 other artists at Project 10 during Collect, the international art fair for contemporary objects produced by the Crafts Council, England held at Saatchi Gallery in May 2013. My participation will be supported by Debbie Goldman from Margaret Street Gallery and the University of arts, London where my PhD is based. The work has developed during my Phd at London College of fashion in both 2-d and 3-d form. I will post more progress images and news to follow – a very Happy New Year to you all and thank you very much for your support for 2012.

I’m so Vain, I thought the show is about me!

Thank you photographer Jens Marott for including me for his One Hour Project, where he spent an hour photographing artists’ in their respective studios. I rather like my picture – what do you think? To see the whole series and get to know more about the project visit here.

Yellow Canary

I started playing with the lingerie-swimwear patterns I recently acquired. The first thing that got my eye are yellow patterns made out of plastic coating – so not paper! The red markings on the bright yellow texture reminded me of canaries – and, so I responded to that feeling by making these abstract bird collages looking at forming shape through both the negative and positive space. These experiments have references to the collage works of Matisse

Love & War

Image

Love & war, 2012, Dimensions Length: 65 cm X Width 52.5 cm, paper remnant pattern collage on found military Hussar imagery.

A found image of a full dressed Hussar soldier on a battleground on a (slightly moulded) mount board sets the scene for the artwork Love & war. The red abstract collage on it comes from the remnant pieces of the artists’ skull imprint. They were sprayed in red paint and mounted so the positive of the collage creates a love charm but the negative creates a shape of a skull.
